Renee with her babes, Simba & Nala.
"I've always wanted to take my dog to work but my corporate job didn't allow it," says Renee Brantner, sitting casually with her rescued golden retriever, Simba, always by her side. "It became this obsessive goal, to someday have my own business and bring my dog to work. Now my dream has come true and I can help make all dogs' dreams come true!"
Renee, who has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin Madison and 15 years experience in marketing and brand management, has always had a passion for animals and dogs in particular.
"My love for the mountains and passion for dogs resulted in the birth of this luxury hotel and daycare. With its rustic lodge ambiance (designed by Brownhouse in Madison) and state-of-the art design, Ruffin' It Resort appeals to both dogs and their people," explains Renee. "Many owners treat their pets as children and want the best care. We have the perfect haven where we pledge to treat every guest (dog) as if they are our own, which means there are a lot of spoiled dogs here!"
Renee recognizes that her love of dogs was not enough to run a premier daycare and hotel. That's where the strong team of 'Pack Leaders' (managers) comes in. Eva, Mandy, and Jenn each have "an incredible background," says Renee. "and extensive training in dog behavior and 'hands-on' experience. I am very fortunate to have them leading our Ruffin' It Resort team."
On a personal note, Renee recently married Steve Shanesy, an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and conservationist. Steve is in remission from leukemia. "He is the only person I know who schedules chemotherapy around hunting season. We share a similar vision for our future and support one another unconditionally. I have a wonderful life, even when serious challenges arise. Steve is my best friend and a brilliant mentor. I owe a lot of the credit to making Ruffin' It Resort a reality to him. At the end of the day, no matter how rough or wonderful, it's all about making dreams come true."
